Hey Jeff
I had a similiar scenario for my campaign.... The first one and half month it was great... then I noticed the decline in the clicks and ctr..... so I kept scratching my head.. well I went in and did some new adcopy, added some keyowrds, and changed the keyword match type.... within a week I saw my CTR climb again.. Great Post

Our cheap and easy workaround is we add CPA or revenue targets at the ad group level. Once we do that, we have a report at the ad group level that sais what the CPA is based on the AOV of that product / transaction. A little too narrow, but it does the trick

It doesn't have to be static. If you've got ecommerce tracking in Analytics and you try to import conversions from Analytics (rather than using AdWords conversion tracking code) then there'll be a conversion with a name like 'Transactions (profile name)', and the value of each Transaction conversion is how much the transaction actually was.

Thanks, RDC. The particular client I was doing these reports for wasn't utilizing conversion tracking in AdWords, so this was my work-around since I had access to their Analytics data. But perhaps we'll implement this in the future!

Thanks for your feedback! I like to do my bid changes based on revenue, so for me the extra effort is worth it to create a spreadsheet I can use to make my bid changes. The custom report you mention above wouldn't include campaign/ad group data, so it wouldn't be useful to me in terms of making account adjustments.

Hi Tamsin - conversion values in AdWords must be set as a static value per conversion, so this can be tricky in eCommerce unless you're only advertising one product with the same value. I'm advertising multiple products with different values across the same campaigns and ad groups, so for me this isn't an effective way to truly monitor revenue.

Hi Marc,

I download all my deleted keywords to an excel spreadsheet every so often and try to make notes of why they were removed from the account. Then I can easily sort through these keywords when I want to add new ones to cross check.

Thanks for the comment. I don't disagree but I also haven't been harmed by their privacy policy in any way and I can't think of anyone I know who has been either.

Nice post! But if you import conversions from Analytics into AdWords, won't the transaction value be imported too (in the 'Total conv. value' column)?
