Seeking a little help.

I have a client who is targeting an audience with keywords that unfortunately align poorly with the ads and to a lesser degree with the landing page. Ex. The product is a fun things to do in Vegas and while "fun things to do in Vegas" is an area of focus, however other areas are people seeking information on a "show/conference in vegas", "booking a cheap hotel room/airfare to vegas", getting a "limo ride for a bachelor party in vegas"... "super bowl parties in las vegas" - they are all in the target, albeit out of the bullseye. And the quality scores are suffering. I am looking for a little direction here to optimize their standing.

Great post. You can also optimise the ad positions by setting up automatic bid rules that lower and raise bids. So raise bids by 10% if the ad starts to sag, etc..

Position 4 is the highest converting position for products and since Google instant and the right hand maps, position 1-2 is now the best converting position for service based businesses.

You make an interesting point about the Google Place listings, especially for a term like "brunch in LA," which I would think would yield plenty of ads from local restaurants. I'm going to have to do some more research on Google's Business and Places listings to see how they directly effect ad placement on SERPs. Thanks for the comment! Sounds like fodder for a future post :-)

Thanks for the great article .. I have noticed these changes in Ad Position in the last month. Ive also noticed changes for restaurant related keywords ... such as "Brunch in Los Angeles" . I often do not see any ads. The SERPS seem geared toward the Google Places listings .. but there is certainly alot of white space on the top, side & bottom for keywords that I would think had alot of PPC spend from businesses?
