Yesterday, Google announced the release of Adwords Editor Version 9.0, and I’m happy to report some nice improvements to the Editor’s functionality that will definitely help you more efficiently manage your accounts. In addition to improving some existing functionality, the new update also allows you to manage new ad features, like Ad Sitelinks and high-end mobile targeting.

First, let’s take a look at the improvements to familiar Adwords Editor functions. For me, the most frustrating part of using the Adwords Editor was making sure the columns in my Excel spreadsheet data were in the proper order to copy and paste into AdWords Editor. This was especially frustrating since none of the reports I download from AdWords’ online interface ever put the columns in the order required by AdWords Editor. But, in AdWords Editor Version 9.0, I no longer have to worry about this. I can now enter data with the columns in any order, as long as the appropriate headers are assigned to each column. Furthermore, I can tell AdWords Editor to remember this column order for my next import. And, if I don’t want to deal with copying and pasting anymore, no worries! AdWords Editor will now allow me to import data directly from a file.

Version 9.0 also makes finding and viewing negative keywords, placements or audiences much easier. Instead of viewing this information on the Negatives tab, you will now be able to segment positive and negative data on each item’s respective tab by the click of a button. You’ll also be able to select duplicate negatives with a single button.

Last, but certainly not least, here are some highlights of the new features in Version 9.0:

  • Version 9.0 now fully supports Ad Sitelinks. You can download Sitelinks data to your accounts in AdWords Editor, and you can import this information via a CSV, XML or HTML file, or by using the Add/Update tool (similar to adding other data components in AdWords Editor).
  • You can also target mobile devices on the campaign level, which makes editing this information more manageable in conjunction with other account changes.

If you’re as eager as I am to start using AdWords Editor 9.0, go ahead and download it from the AdWords Editor site. We’d love to hear your feedback, so once you’ve downloaded it and given it a try, let us know what you think in the comments below!
