Our Greatest Hits for July!

August 4th, 2008 | Joe | Greatest Hits

The page views have spoken! Below we have gathered PPC Hero’s four most visited, and hopefully most valuable, articles from July. Whether you’re a new subscriber or a current subscriber you may have missed these insightful and helpful pay-per-click management tips. Enjoy!

  • We’ve discussed custom URL tagging for use with Google Analytics several times on PPC Hero.  But this was the first time we delved into the subject of potential URL tags for Google AdWords so that you can track data in analytics packages other than Google Analytics.  The key is utilizing Google’s insertion tags, which can bring in keyword, ad text and even Search vs. Content data!
  • We discovered that Yahoo is instituting a new policy called, “Ad Profiling.” Under this policy Yahoo can access your account and pause keywords, insert new ad texts, and suggest new keywords. If you are uncomfortable with someone who isn’t you tinkering with you accounts, you’re not alone. We find this highly suspect and are keeping a close eye on our Yahoo accounts – and you should too.
  • Be sure to check your ad diagnostics tool in Google Adwords. I’m finding that many of my long tail keywords are inactive or not showing due to low keyword search volume.  Yet other advertisers are showing for the same keyword. I was informed by my Google rep that other advertisers may be showing for the broad match version of that keyword.  Solution, stop with the long tail, go for more general terms.
  • Our very first landing page critique podcast was a success! Thanks to everyone who submited their landing pages for review (we’ll bet getting to you) and thanks to everyone who has tuned in thus far. We’ll be doing another podcast this month!
