Your Yahoo Stats Weren’t That Bad This Weekend: Yahoo’s Reporting is BrokenPosted by Joe on April 13, 2009 in Yahoo! Search Marketing |
Yahoo’s reporting isn’t necessarily broken but the majority of accounts are seeing significant reporting delays that stem back as far as Thursday afternoon. On Friday, we thought it might just be a fluke but when we got in to the office this morning, all of our Yahoo stats were down significantly. And this is due to the fact that none of our accounts have logged any conversion data since Thursday (4/10).
I spoke with my customer representative at Yahoo. He said that the reporting delay is being worked on by their engineers. However, he did not have an ETA on when full stats would appear within the interface reporting.
If we receive any updates on this, we’ll let you know. We just wanted make everyone aware, just in case your Yahoo stats seemed off (or terrible!) this morning!

Thank you for that information. I was thinking there is no possible way Yahoo could have fallen off the earth like that. It is sad that I needed you guys to post this to find it out though.

@ Tim: Our pleasure!
Yes, the first thing I did was check the YSM blog… but no mention. And I checked their Twitter… no mention. So, we took it upon ourselves to advise people.

They said that they’ll have it up and running by Sunday. I still haven’t seen any progress yet!

Definitely a big thanks! And yes, they need to get on the ball and publicize this everywhere!

Yahoo is such a ridiculous joke. No conversion tracking… running blind… awesome!

Also having the same problem since Thursday. And no notice from them whatsoever. If not for my Google Analytics tracking, I would have paused my Yahoo campaigns because of zero conversion.

@ Kim, Elizabeth, Ellerton, Jun: At least we were able to spot the problem! When I came in on Monday morning, it looked as if all of my Yahoo campaigns had crashed. Then once I realized that it was a reporting issue, I felt a little bit better. But not much better. But still, this is ridiculous. Hopefully they have it fixed before Sunday! One reader sent us an email saying Yahoo hopes to have it fixed within 48 hours (from yesterday afternoon). We’ll see.

I contacted my Yahoo rep yesterday. Hopefully I will hear something from her today when I go to the office, as we have different time zones. I’ll post here whatever feedback I get from them.

Yup,we saw our accounts tank on Thursday/Friday and have been calling since. The conversions are slowly coming in but as of 9:26 EST on Wed Apr 15, 2009 they are behind [ The data for this report is complete through Monday, April 13, 2009 1:45:00 AM EDT. ]
For our accounts there has not been a huge hurt because we have some pretty old well running Campaigns but this would have been much worse if we had launched a new campaign on Thursday?!
Also, a side note this data outage did happen the week before as well. We saw gaps in reporting on Friday April 3, 2009 and called.
As for when you get Yahoo on the phone they sound like there is a urgency to the problem. Yes, they say their engineers are working on the problem but when I ask them to be added to a “Please Call or Notify” list of when you fixed the problem, the phone rep seems surprised.

@ Jun: “If not for my Google Analytics tracking, I would have paused my Yahoo campaigns because of zero conversion.”
Do you just have Analytics Goal tracking on or more detailed info? I have seen the instructions for truly separating Yahoo PPC in Analytics but have not carved out the time for installing the filters.

@ Jun, Matt: I haven’t heard from our Yahoo representative. But even today there is a reporting lag in Yahoo. My accounts say, “The data for this report is complete through Monday, April 13, 2009 10:30:00 AM EDT.” So, something is still seriously wrong over there.
April 15th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
@Matt: I have goals and other stuff like the clicks/visits, and Y content network referrals tracked.
@Joe: My Y rep said the latest update is that reporting will be back to normal this Thursday…. HOPEFULLY.
April 16th, 2009 at 6:40 am
Checked this morning EST 8:35pm still lagged “The data for this report is complete through Tuesday, April 14, 2009 10:45:00 PM EDT”
Maybe they meant like Thursday 5:00pm West Coast time
Just have to dive into Analytics more to find out what is left after Google and MSN sent traffic

I am still w/o any conversion tracking from Yahoo since Thursday as well. So it looks like its going to be about a week and a half w/o any performance data?! Someone really dropped the ball here. Thanks for blogging this as it saved me a lot of time that I would have wasted having our developers look into this issue on our end.
April 16th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
@ Chris: You’re welcome! We’re seeing conversion data up until Tuesday for most accounts. But there is still a lag!
April 16th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Already have complete data up to the 15th. Nothing for the 16th though….
April 17th, 2009 at 7:00 am
I am see complete data for the 16th and now the report is just showing
“The data for this report is complete through Friday, April 17, 2009 12:30:00 AM EDT.”
