The Google team just announced a change in the algorithm behind traffic estimates for your keywords.  For PPC managers, this update to Adwords is on par with a granted wish from Jambi on Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

We all know how important it is to choose the right keywords for our accounts.  With Google’s update, you will be privy to more accurate information on click estimates, costs and ad position.  These metrics can improve your strategies for bid adjustments, ad text writing, and help you grow your account.  Of course, you can find this magical information in several different spots in Adwords: on the Keyword tab, the Traffic Estimator and the ever-popular Keyword Tool.

Once you have new keywords in your account, how can you determine what bid and budget is appropriate for them?  Again, the Traffic Estimator will grant this wish.  Use this tool to plug in different Max CPCs and see how your traffic would be affected at different bid levels.

The keyword “Playhouse” would be fairly profitable for one of my clients.  It has a low CPC, plenty of traffic and, in the grand scheme of things, the total daily cost is not bad for a broad keyword.  Try the Estimator the next time you freshen up your account by adding new keywords, and let us know how it helped you!  Also check out Rob’s case study post on bid changes.  How could this client have benefited from using this new Google update?

This Adwords update helps take the guesswork out of choosing your keywords, and it will help PPC managers improve the return on investment as well as other important metrics in their accounts.  So, boys and girls, the magic Google words for today are MORE TRAFFIC!  AHHHHHH!
